Radiator Finishes and Colours: What Buyers Should Specify

A finish affects appearance, cleanability, packaging and the perceived quality of a radiator range. A colour name alone is rarely enough to guarantee a repeatable result.
Define colour with a reference
Where possible, use a recognised colour reference and an approved physical sample. Screens and printed swatches can differ from coated metal under natural and artificial light.
Record gloss and texture
Matt, satin and gloss surfaces can make the same colour appear different. Fine texture may disguise minor handling marks, while smooth gloss highlights surface preparation. Put gloss level or an approved comparison panel into the specification.
Consider the full assembly
Radiator body, side panels, top grille, plugs, vents and brackets may use different coating or production processes. Review them together so visible parts form a coherent set.
Plan for transport
Dark matt finishes and sharp architectural edges can show abrasion if internal protection is insufficient. Packaging trials should consider carton movement, accessory placement and contact between coated parts.
Protect repeatability
Keep signed samples, record coating references and communicate any supplier or process change. For large projects, batch planning can reduce visible variation across units installed in the same space.
