Radiator Installation Clearances and Placement Planning

Heat output is not the only constraint in radiator placement. The installer also needs practical access and a clear airflow path around the emitter.

Measure the complete envelope

Use the overall radiator dimensions plus brackets, valves, pipework and required installation tolerances. Check skirting, sockets, window boards, doors and furniture.

Protect airflow

Furniture and full-length curtains can obstruct convection and reduce how effectively heat reaches the room. Radiator covers may also alter performance and access.

Plan for service

Leave access for valves, venting and isolation. The radiator should be removable without unnecessary damage to surrounding finishes.

Use the technical drawing

Bracket centres are not necessarily the same as radiator dimensions. Confirm wall-to-face projection, pipe centres and minimum clearances from the current drawing for the exact model.

Check the wall construction

Fixings must suit the wall and the filled operating weight. Where wall capacity is uncertain, obtain appropriate site advice before installation.
